Icahn News Team 2014

Mr. Litt and the seventh grade news team held an interview in mid-march, inquiring about his educational background and goals for the future of Icahn.  While the interview was a success, it is not the only component currently in progress.  Students are researching special interest projects, such as current events on the international, national and school-wide level.  The range of topics varies from Icahn Sportscasters covering "March Madness", to Special Interest Reporters dissecting the notorious "Meatless Mondays".  The team is extremely excited to begin the rigorous journey ahead.
In the motto of the Newsteam, "If Icahn, than Ucahn, and if Ucahn, WE ALL-CAHN!"

- Mr. Reynolds, Ms. Loredo and the News Teams

Our Mission

The mission of Icahn Charter Schools is to use the Core Knowledge curriculum, developed by E.D. Hirsch, to provide students with a rigorous academic program offered in an extended day/year setting. Students will graduate armed with the skills and knowledge to participate successfully in the most rigorous academic environments, and will have a sense of personal and community responsibility.

Mr. Jeffrey Litt, Superintendent

Core Knowledge

A Core Knowledge Education

The idea behind Core Knowledge is simple and powerful: knowledge builds on knowledge. The more you know, the more you are able to learn. This insight, well-established by cognitive science, has profound implications for teaching and learning. Nearly all of our most important goals for education–greater reading comprehension, the ability to think critically and solve problems, even higher test scores–are a function of the depth and breadth of our knowledge.
